Nether Kellet to Lancaster - 6th January 2012

After a week of stormy weather, Friday dawned fine and calm for the public transport walk. A short bus journey took us to the start of our walk at Nether Kellet, from where we followed a very muddy footpath across fields and through woodland. Some of the puddles and the water trough had a thin layer of ice suggesting possibly colder weather to come. Our route continued along a rather wet track where care was needed to avoid slipping and on to the woodland above Bolton le Sands.

We stopped here for our coffee break and one of our party really made herself at home, even hanging gloves on the tree branch. Descending to the canal, we followed the towpath along to St Michaels Lane, admiring the reflections of tree branches and bridges. We walked on passing the old cottages in Bolton le Sands and then along Ancliffe Lane where we had to negotiate some very wet areas.

Black Dyke Lane was not as wet but was still muddy. However we had views of silhouetted trees on the skyline and views towards Lancaster. After descending, we joined the towpath again, crossed the aqueduct bridge and followed the canal, passing young swans eager for food. Our walk ended in the centre the centre of Lancaster just in time as it was just starting to drizzle.
