Friday-Windermere-October2010

It was a beautiful morning when our group of Public Transport walkers caught the train to Windermere and set off to walk to Ambleside. The first part of the walk took us along a wooded path below Orrest Head, with a spectacular growth of moss on the wall. Climbing up through woodland, we reached the fields where we had good views down to the slightly misty lake. We continued on towards Causeway Farm and stopped for a coffee break on the rocks at Allen Crags.

Troutbeck village came into view as we descended the field paths and road to eventually cross the Trout Beck. Our path then led us up and up passing the cottages at Town Foot, Troutbeck, to our lunch stop on a convenient seat at the top of the climb. Following the bridleway along, we were treated to lovely views of the fells in the far distance and the lake below us, and made our way up the winding farm road to walk through Skellghyll Woods and on to Jenkins Crag. We carefully negotiated the slippery stone descent to the lane where Ambleside finally came into view. Our walk ended in Ambleside where we had time for refreshments before our bus and train journey back to Lancaster.
