Information on the Table Tennis Group

The group has just entered its third year and has grown from the initial five members to around twenty five. We play every Tuesday and Wednesday from 12.00 noon at the Barton Road Youth & Community Centre, easily reached by the no. 4 bus. We have a roughly equal mix of men and women, and of novices and more experienced players.

In our mixed ability group everyone's game has improved - which may not always happen in more formal education. We have recently welcomed Ken Riley, who leads a team called "The Barbarians" in the Premier Division at Ripley in the Hargreaves Garages/Chevrolet Lancaster and Morecambe Table Tennis League. Maybe one day we will field a team ourselves ...

Historical note: our inspiration was a very active U3A group in Bendigo, Australia, where Lynda Burke plays for three months of the year.. Several OBEs are keen players (in Oz, OBE stands for 'Over Bloody Eighty).

All are welcome. If you would like to join this very friendly and informal group contact David Ralphs, 01995 603056, ralphs@garstang.eclipse.co.uk or John Allen, 01524 383120, John-allen1@hotmail.com

Please do not be deterred if you have never played before, as in the best ways of the U3A, we are a self help group. Our standards run from complete beginner, to people resuming playing from times gone by. Return to group summary
