Information on the Photography Group
The Photography Group is for anybody interested in photography. Some members are long-standing photographers with plenty of experience and expertise, while others are complete beginners.
Any member of the L&M U3A is very welcome to attend at any time. It should be noted, however, that this is not a teaching group and will not be able to show you how to use your new digital camera or initiate you into the mysteries of digital imaging! (Though individual group members may of course be willing to help you out.)
Our usual format is for a subject to be selected the previous month, and for each group member to bring along 6 to 8 images on that theme to show to the group, using the U3A laptop and digital projector. Members of the group may comment on the photographs shown in a positive way, sometimes suggesting how an image might be improved.
Pendrives are the favoured and easiest means of showing images, though CDs or even camera cards would be viable alternatives. All members of the group currently use digital cameras, but for die-hard analogue photographers there is the option of bringing prints. We have no facilities to show slides.
We occasionally have a more formal tuition session, with a member of the group choosing a subject on which to inform us. For example, we ran a session on Macro Photography during the first half of 2011.
If time permits, we try to discuss different aspects of photography. And members are very welcome indeed to suggest subjects or to bring along anything at all that they think may interest the group. Return to group summary
