German Translation, Grammar & Vocabulary

German requires some knowledge of the language but 'rustiness' or 'extreme rustiness' should not deter prospective members. There is a meeting on most Friday mornings covering either German Translation or German Grammar & Vocabulary.

German Conversation

Guten Tag. In September 2009 Sue Heise started the German conversation group soon after she joined the U3A. Sue spent 30+years living and working in Germany and is keen to increase other peoples knowledge of Germany today. The German conversation group provides an opportunity for you to practise German ready for your holiday in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Namibia etc. We have read 21st century short stories, magazine articles and done word puzzles and recently have discussed the following topics :

• The Swedish Royal wedding in picture magazines
• The geography of Germany with a look at all 16 provinces
• The Versailles Treaty as a basis to understanding historical developments in the 20th century and how German borders changed
• Some biographies of German men and women

We meet twice a month and welcome new members at any time.
