Windermere to Brockhole 4th July 2008

Friday, 4th July, was a beautiful, sunny day for our public transport walk. After our bus journey from Lancaster, we set off from Windermere through the woodland paths below Orrest Head. Following our picnic in the meadows, we continued past Crosses Cottages and Far Orrest farm to be rewarded with spectacular views over Windermere lake to the hills beyond. Our route then took us down into the valley and over the bridges crossing the Trout Beck. We walked up past cottages at Town End, Troutbeck, before descending via an old lane. By this stage it was a lovely warm afternoon and even the horses were sheltering under trees as we passed Middlerigg Tarn. Our route ended at Brockhole where we went to have a look at the lake and jetty and some even paddled! - followed by refreshments on the terrace before our journey back home.
