Tarn Hows |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| At last, a fine day for Lakes
Lovers. We assembled in Carnforth and proceeded by cars to the car
park at the top of Tarn Hows. Most of us were able to use our National
Trust free parking cards.
We walked at at a leisurely pace anti-clockwise around the Tarn enjoying the fresh air, tranquillity and fine views. Back at the cars we drove down to Hawkshead and found a suitable pub to lunch at. After lunch we had about an hour looking around the village and shops before returning to the car park before ticket expiry time and drove back to Carnforth and home. A very enjoyable day |

Fell Walking 24th January |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In spite of cold weather warnings the intrepid fell-walking group, eleven of us, assembled as usual at Tesco's in Carnforth at 10 a.m. on Monday morning. We journeyed to Sedbergh, put our boots, scarves and gloves on, and set off towards Settlebeck Gill, turned left and took the path to Lockbank Farm. From there we set off up around the south side of Winder. On reaching the top path we felt the full force of the NW wind, but continued to the summit trig point where we found a sheltered spot to eat our lunches. We then descended along the north side of Winder and were soon out of the wind. We arrived back in the village where some of us enjoyed a cup of tea (several) and a piece of cake. The walk had been four and a half miles with 1200 feet of ascent, enough for a cold winter's day. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
