Kirkby Lonsdale and Whittington  Oct 6 2008

Eight walkers set off from Devil’s Bridge along the riverbank on a sunny but cool morning.  We could see evidence of the heavy rain of Saturday in the tide-line of debris high on the banks and in the bushes  After a mile or so we headed across to Whittington and had a coffee stop in the churchyard with a lovely view in glorious sunshine ( using conveniently placed benches.)

After Sellet Hall and Sellet Mill we had an interesting section of stony track which was literally a stream in several sections. Onward into Kirkby Lonsdale and via the churchyard to Ruskin’s View, which was very clear. Down the steep steps to the river again and back to the cars. There was an impressive 6 ft barrier of driftwood completely across the footpath from Saturday night, but we managed to climb over at one side.  ( and so Lesley didn’t have to climb UP the steps)  A picnic lunch was enjoyed in the sunshine before heading home.
