Friday - Garstang to Scorton

Our September Public Transport Walk, started off from Lancaster in weather which appeared inclement to say the least. However by the time we got off the bus, the rain had stopped and we were able to enjoy a walk which might have been wet underfoot but was dry from above! We set off from Garstang along the track left by the old railway and continued on lanes and across fields to Barnacre Church. Having a look inside, we discovered an attractive stained glass window, showing a pheasant, rabbit, deer and sheep with local countryside. We then followed paths up to pass Birks Farm, where major alterations were in progress, and Burns Farm, before descending to Grizedale. After lunch in the valley, we climbed beside the heather with views down to the reservoirs. Our route continued along the top of Nicky Nook from where the new giant windmill stood out light in the valley. We continued down the fellside and along the roads to reach Scorton for refreshments in The Barn, before crossing over the Wyre and through the caravan park for the bus back home..
