Friday - Kendal to Sizergh

After the bright frosty weather of the last few days, our public transport walk for December started off damp but, by the time we reached Kendal, the rain had stopped. The first part of the route was beside the river Kent on a path which was rather slippery in places due to the melting snow and ice. The views across the river were pretty with a lot of ducks and swans. Our small party found a good lunch spot on an old tree trunk in Scroggs Wood before enjoying walking through snow-covered fields towards Hawes Bridge. Following the path up to Prizet we even encountered an igloo in one of the meadows! We continued up through the snowy slopes to eventually reach Helsington church with views across the valley, and, after looking inside the church, we had Christmassy refreshments in the porch. The final part of our walk took us down the fields and along the lane to Sizergh for tea and scones in the cafe. Walking along the lane to the bus, we enjoyed a lovely sunset at the end of a good day's walk.
