Friday - Lancaster to Galgate

On a sparkling winter's day, our group of public transport walkers set off from Lancaster for a walk to Galgate (changing the advertised walk somewhat in accordance with the prevailing weather conditions). Our initial route took us along the quay and then up to past the Priory church and railway station, before walking through to the Fairfield area and the community orchard. After crossing the padfields, we watched sledging on the hill slopes and followed paths across fields to the cycleway. It was a lovely sunny day, warm enough to enjoy sitting at the picnic tables for our lunch but after watching the birds on the shore, we regretfully made our way to Conder Green, where we saw the swans on the shore near the old bridge and the rather intriguing snowflake road sign! We then  made our way across fields with views towards the Bowland Fells and the Lake District hills to reach the canal where a brave member of our party tested the ice! Further on a group of ducks had discovered a small gap in the ice where swimming was a possibility, and we were also pleased to discover the craft centre cafe open for refreshments before our bus journey back to Lancaster.
