Friday - Kirkby Lonsdale

On 12th February, the public transport walkers set off from Kirkby Lonsdale, having travelled by bus from Lancaster. Our route took us past Devil's Bridge and up through the caravan park where we encountered a field of alpacas. We followed paths and lanes to walk through High Casterton and up to join the Fellfoot Drove track. While following this we investigated 12 of the Andy Goldsworthy sheepfolds, each with its large central stone. The sun came out for our walk and lunch stop below Barbon Low Fell. We then turned back to cross the fields below Whelprigg Manor with its display of snowdrops - although this had been quite a snowdrop walk for most of the route with lovely clumps of white flowers in hedgerows and beside streams. Blue sky accompanied the remainder of our walk back through Casterton and past the Hall to return to Kirkby Lonsdale for welcome refreshments before catching the bus for home.
